The State College Area School District (School District) permits students who reside within the School District but are not enrolled in the School District to participate in the extracurricular, co-curricular and educational activities offered to the students at the School District. For example, home school students and charter school students are permitted to participate in the extracurricular, co-curricular and educational activities offered by the School District.
Unfortunately, after several requests, the School District has refused to provide parochial school students with the same access that it provides to home school and charter school students.
This places our students and parents in the position where we must forgo educational opportunities offered to others in order to further our religious beliefs.
We should not be required to choose between our religious beliefs and educational opportunities that as taxpayers, we help fund. If some students who are not registered in the School District are permitted to participate, all students who are not registered in the School District should be permitted to participate. We should not be punished for pursuing our religious beliefs.
We have filed a complaint on 7/10/23 in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The State College Area School District, along with the School Board have been served with this complaint.
